T-shirt printing technology

According to the shape of the fabric before printing, it can be divided into cloth printing, piece printing and garment printing.

According to the shape of the fabric before printing, it can be divided into cloth printing, piece printing and garment printing. Cloth printing refers to the whole piece of cloth is printed with patterns before cutting; cut piece printing is to print the pieces of clothing that have not been sewn after the garment is cut; ready-to-wear printing refers to printing after the garment has been sewn.

is mainly used for T-shirt printing, cut piece printing and ready-to-wear printing.

According to the materials and methods used in printing, it can be divided into: water slurry printing, glue printing, ink printing and hot stamping, transfer printing, as well as special and unusual tie-dyeing, wax dyeing, etc., which can also be attributed to printing technology. Range.

Now let's analyze various printing technologies and their advantages and disadvantages.

water slurry printing: is the earliest printing technology applied.

The material used for printing patterns is water-based paste, similar to the pigments or dyes used in painting. By technically processing the printing screen, the paste can penetrate into the fabric where there is a pattern, but the place without a pattern cannot penetrate, so that the pattern can be printed on the fabric.

Its characteristics are: only one color can be printed at a time, if you want to print the second color, you must wait for the previous color to dry before proceeding; you need to make a printing plate; generally you can’t use four colors to print color patterns, and you can’t print in dark colors. Light-colored patterns are printed on the fabric; the advantage is that the printed fabric has good air permeability, but because it needs to be washed during printing, the clothes will become hard. This method is more used for cloth printing.

glue printing: the basic process is the same as water printing, but the material used is glue pigment that will solidify on the fabric after drying.

The characteristics are: only one color can be printed at a time, if you want to print the second color, you must wait for the previous color to dry before proceeding; you need to make a printing plate; generally you cannot use four colors to print color patterns; because the glue is opaque, It can also print light-colored patterns on dark fabrics; poor air permeability; patterns that are not washable and easy to fall off, especially when used in chemical fiber fabrics.

The most common printed T-shirts currently on the market are mostly printed with glue.

Ink printing: also called thermosetting ink printing.

It uses chemical ink as the printing material, and it needs high temperature drying to make the ink solidify on the fabric; it needs to make a printing plate; it can use four-color bumping screen to print color patterns, or it can print a layer of white on the dark fabric. Then print light-colored patterns; same as glue printing, poor air permeability; patterns that are not washable and easy to fall off, especially when used in chemical fiber fabrics.

Some cooler T-shirts seen on the market are ink-printed works.
Hot stamping and transfer printing: It is a technology developed at a later time.
It uses an intermediate medium (such as transfer paper), that is, the pattern is printed on a special coating transfer paper, and then the pattern on the transfer paper is transferred to the fabric through pressure and high temperature. The advantage of this is that it simplifies the production process of printing, and makes the production of patterns, ie transfer paper, a new industry independently, and facilitates the distribution of patterns. Its actual effect is the same as ink printing, but its pattern accuracy is higher. Heat transfer and T-shirt transfer paper are representative of this type.
